Brampton & Ajax Crematorium & Visitation Centers

(BCVC & ACVC)

2020 was an unprecedented year for everyone, a year that has led businesses to think outside the box, which is something we excel at here at Eminence AV.  In 2019 we had completed a full audio-visual overhaul (Phase 1) at  Brampton & Ajax Crematorium & Visitation Centers. When COVID-19 closures first began, BCVC/ACVC management reached out with a dilemma and we immediately knew it was going to be a unique situation, different from anything we had done before. With unprecedented restrictions from local authorities and very little time to react, the management teams at BCVC & ACVC needed a solution to move funerals to a virtual platform. We understand how important it is for families to pay their final respects, and knew this couldn’t be a generic solution, and would need to be fully customized.

Phase 1 of the solution was creating a digital funeral home, one with state of the art audio-visual equipment that was all controlled using the latest in tech. The installation phase included the addition of a new sound system throughout the building, new projectors, PTZ cameras for live streaming, and a hub to bring everything together. In 2020 when COVID-19 restrictions began changing daily, we took into account the urgency and importance surrounding funeral services, and immediately placed additional resources and staff on standby, working around the clock to complete required installations and upgrades to the existing system on extremely tight deadlines.

After the installation phase, we needed to create an application that would allow the funeral home staff to control all functions via multiple Apple iOS devices. With a wide range of technical abilities it was important for solutions to be easy to use for all staff regardless of how tech savvy they may be. With the need for something exceptional, yet simple and user friendly, our team built a custom app for both funeral homes, allowing them to control everything from audio levels to lowering projector screens with a single touch on an iPad.

The final phase of the project was the most crucial; shifting everything online. In order for this to be as close to a normal funeral service as possible, we understood it would need to be intimate, secure and, most importantly, emulate attending a funeral in person. At the time we were approached, the venue was utilizing Facebook for live streaming, a common tool used by funeral homes along with other services such as Zoom. However, these solutions do not create an intimate experience, as they are not built for funerals specifically. After understanding the funeral homes vision and needs, our team was able to build a custom solution by creating a dedicated webpage, built to match the funeral homes branding and themes. Each funeral service receives a dedicated webpage, with each page containing an embedded secure stream and condolence board, allowing guests to both view a service for a loved one, and also leaving their condolences. Once a funeral service is complete, the family is able to view & save the condolence board and a list of virtual attendees

Having their hands full with day-to-day operations, BCVC & ACVC opted for our full support solution, and in doing so, they receive 24-7 technical support, as well as dedicated back-end operations, and a member of our staff there to handle each and every service. When a funeral is booked, the staff at BCVC & ACVC simply complete a digital form with funeral details and everything else is taken care of by our team, providing a hassle free solution to live streaming funerals.

It’s important for families to be together even though they are apart. We will continue to work with our funeral home partners throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond to ensure families can still pay their final respects to their loved ones, no matter where they are in the world.
